Saudi Ports Authority Marks 2023 with Multiple Award Recognitions
In 2023, the Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani) was recognized with several awards, reflecting its commitment to enhancing the Kingdom's maritime and logistics infrastructure.
Mawani's notable achievements included the creation of eight logistics parks and the introduction of 28 new maritime services in alignment with Saudi Arabia's transport and logistics strategy.
Saudi Arabia improved its international maritime rankings significantly, climbing to 16th on Lloyd's list for container throughput and to 38th on the World Bank's Logistics Performance Index. Regionally, the country showed the highest advancement in the Liner Shipping Connectivity Index by UNCTAD.
Mawani signed contracts exceeding SR4 billion for logistics park developments, notably Maersk's largest Middle East facility in Jeddah Islamic Port and a collaborative project with CMA CGM.
Agreements also covered developments in Dammam's King Abdulaziz Port and Yanbu's King Fahad Industrial Port. Furthermore, Mawani enhanced global trade links through the new maritime routes and established the Seaman Club at Jeddah Islamic Port.
Internationally, the authority received accolades for Jeddah Islamic Port, securing the Best Seaport of the Year 2022 at the Rotterdam Green Shipping Summit and ShipTek's Port of the Year award.
