New Bahrain Tourism CEO Sara Ahmed Buhiji: Positioning Manama as the Tourism Capital with Cultural Heritage and Sustainability
The new CEO of Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority, Sara Ahmed Buhiji, spoke to Arab News Japan about Bahrain's plans for tourism development.
The goal is to make Manama the tourism capital of Bahrain and the region, while preserving cultural heritage and promoting sustainable practices.
Buhiji, who previously worked in the Prime Minister's office and served on the tourism authority board, expressed her gratitude for the opportunity.

To attract tourists, she plans to diversify offerings and highlight Bahrain's cultural heritage, including UNESCO World Heritage Sites like Bahrain Fort and ancient burial mounds.
Buhiji also emphasized the importance of sustainable tourism and Bahrain's commitment to integrating sustainability practices, with a focus on preserving cultural and heritage sites, in collaboration with the Ministry of Sustainable Development.
The CEO of a tourism-related business in Bahrain emphasized the importance of digital marketing and collaboration with other Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries to collectively promote the region as a tourism hotspot.
Their main focus markets are China, India, Germany, and the UK.
The CEO also mentioned Bahrain's upcoming tourism events, including celebrations for the King's silver jubilee and cultural and entertainment events.
Bahrain's tourism authority is looking forward to hosting international events at their new exhibition center.
Upcoming events include the Bahrain Jazz Festival, concerts for Arab singers, a color run, and Comic Con, all happening in April.
The authority draws inspiration from Japan, which has been a successful tourism destination.
They aim to create a similar unique offering for tourists in Bahrain.
However, developing such attractions will take time, and for now, the focus is on the "beach side of Bahrain." Bahrain and Japan have previously collaborated on tourism matters, with the authority meeting with Japanese officials to attract more Japanese tourists and investments in the hotel and hospitality sector.
The CEO expressed his confidence in Bahrain's tourism industry, emphasizing the commitment to providing excellence, sustainability, and collaboration.
As Bahrain works to establish itself as a top tourist destination, the CEO looks forward to welcoming visitors from around the world.
