Annual Raising of Kiswa at Makkah's Kaaba Before Hajj Season
The kiswa, a black cloth covering the Kaaba in Makkah, is raised annually before Hajj season to protect it from pilgrims who touch it while circling the Kaaba.
The lower part of the kiswa is raised about three meters and the area beneath is covered with white cotton fabric.
The same process is done every year, and a new kiswa is draped in its place on the ninth day of Dul Hijjah.
