Saudi Authorities Detain Over 12,000 Individuals for Violations of Residency and Border Security Laws
The Saudi Press Agency reports a significant spike in arrests, with the majority being Ethiopians and Yemenis attempting to enter the Kingdom unlawfully.
In a concerted crackdown on immigration violations and border security infractions, Saudi authorities have apprehended 12,192 individuals within one week, as reported by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) on April 25, 2026.
These arrests were conducted in accordance with national laws governing residency, labor practices, and border integrity.The enforcement actions resulted in the detention of 6,606 people for violating residency rules, 3,510 individuals for attempting to cross the Kingdom's borders without authorization, and an additional 2,076 individuals for various labor-related infractions.
Notably, among those apprehended for unlawful entry attempts, Ethiopians made up 67 percent of the total, followed by Yemenis at 32 percent, with the remaining 1 percent encompassing nationals from other countries.The SPA also reported that efforts to circumvent Saudi Arabia's borders have been further hindered by a smaller group of 50 individuals attempting to cross into adjacent nations.
Moreover, 22 individuals were arrested for facilitating and concealing those seeking to enter the Kingdom undetected, as per the Ministry of Interior's statement.The Saudi Ministry of Interior has underscored that providing aid or resources to facilitate unauthorized entry, which includes transportation and shelter, can incur severe penalties.
These may include imprisonment for up to 15 years, a fine reaching up to SR1 million ($267,000), alongside the confiscation of vehicles and assets involved in such violations.Citizens and residents are advised to report suspected immigration violations by contacting the toll-free number 911 within the Makkah and Riyadh regions or dialing 999 or 996 for other areas within the Kingdom.
The Saudi authorities have emphasized their commitment to maintaining national security and upholding the country's immigration policies through these stringent measures.
