Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Interior Allows Name Changes and Deletions of Family Names: New Regulations for First Names and Civil Status Law
The Ministry of Interior's Civil Affairs Agency has announced modifications to articles 40, 41, and 43 of the Civil Status Law's executive regulations.
These changes allow individuals over the age of 18 to change their first names or revert to previous ones, and permit the deletion of family, tribal, or second grandparent names from their civil registry records.
However, the name must still have a minimum of four parts.
The text outlines the rules for name modifications in Saudi Arabia.
The changes should not be related to naturalization or special decisions, and must be supported by Saudi documents confirming the individual's family relationship.
Exceptions include completing a four-part name in the civil registry and correcting errors.
