Saudi Arabia Intercepts Three Ballistic Missiles Targeting Prince Sultan Air Base

Air defence systems successfully neutralize incoming projectiles aimed at key military facility near Riyadh amid escalating regional tensions
Saudi Arabia has announced that its air defence systems successfully intercepted three ballistic missiles targeting Prince Sultan Air Base near Riyadh, preventing damage to one of the kingdom’s most strategically important military installations.

According to Saudi defence authorities, the missiles were detected and destroyed before reaching their intended target.

The facility, located about sixty kilometres southeast of the Saudi capital, hosts Saudi and United States military personnel and serves as a major hub for regional air operations and defensive coordination.

Officials said the interception took place as part of a broader defensive response to escalating missile and drone attacks across the Gulf region.

In addition to the ballistic missiles aimed at Prince Sultan Air Base, Saudi forces also reported intercepting other aerial threats, including drones and a cruise missile in nearby areas.

No casualties or material damage were reported following the interception.

Authorities said air traffic and civilian infrastructure in the surrounding area were not affected by the incident.

Prince Sultan Air Base has become a key site for joint security cooperation between Saudi Arabia and the United States.

The installation hosts advanced air defence systems designed to counter missile threats, including Patriot and Terminal High Altitude Area Defense batteries, which play a central role in protecting military assets and regional airspace.

The attempted strike comes amid a broader wave of missile and drone attacks launched across the Middle East as tensions between Iran, Israel and the United States continue to escalate.

Several Gulf countries have reported interceptions of incoming projectiles aimed at military bases and energy infrastructure in recent days.

Saudi Arabia has strongly condemned the attacks, describing them as violations of national sovereignty and a threat to regional stability.

The kingdom has reiterated its readiness to defend its territory while continuing diplomatic engagement with regional partners in an effort to prevent the conflict from widening further.

Military analysts say the successful interception demonstrates the growing importance of integrated missile defence systems across the Gulf, where strategic military installations and energy infrastructure remain potential targets during periods of heightened geopolitical confrontation.
