Saudi Arabia's Permanent Executive Committee for Fuel Stations and Service Centers has released updated regulations for the establishment and operation of fuel stations and service centers. The updates aim to align the sector with international energy standards and fulfill the objectives of Vision 2030.
The committee highlighted that the new rules will standardize setting up, managing, operating, and maintaining fuel facilities while improving service quality. Key changes include the qualification requirements for station operators and specified minimum distances between stations in urban and rural areas. Upgraded standards address pumps, tanks, cleanliness, upkeep, quality, and product availability.
Stations must comply with the new regulations within a year from their announcement, except where different adjustment periods are provided, notably for station location and distancing criteria.
The revision was led by the Ministry of Energy, in collaboration with other governmental bodies including Ministries of Commerce, Municipal and Rural Affairs and Housing, Islamic Affairs, Interior, Tourism, Transport and Logistics, Human Resources and Social Development, Media, Finance, and Environment, Water and Agriculture through the National Center for Environmental Compliance.
