Greek Energy Minister Holds Strategic Talks in Saudi Arabia on Power and Infrastructure Projects
Athens and Riyadh explore cooperation on energy interconnections, renewables and regional investment
Greece’s energy minister has held high-level discussions in Saudi Arabia focused on strategic energy and infrastructure projects, reflecting deepening cooperation between the two countries amid shifting global energy dynamics.
The talks centred on expanding collaboration in electricity interconnections, renewable energy development and long-term investment opportunities linking the Eastern Mediterranean with the Gulf.
During meetings with senior Saudi officials and energy executives, the Greek delegation highlighted Athens’ ambition to position Greece as a regional energy hub connecting Europe, the Middle East and North Africa.
Key projects discussed included large-scale electricity interconnectors, grid stability initiatives and the potential role of renewable power in supporting cross-border energy trade.
Saudi counterparts expressed interest in projects that align with the kingdom’s Vision 2030 goals to diversify energy sources and invest in advanced infrastructure.
The discussions also covered broader cooperation in clean energy technologies, including solar and wind power, as well as energy storage and hydrogen-related initiatives.
Greece has sought to attract strategic partners for projects designed to enhance energy security in southeastern Europe, while Saudi Arabia is looking to deploy capital and technical expertise internationally as it expands its global energy footprint.
Officials from both sides described the talks as constructive and forward-looking, signalling an intention to move from dialogue to concrete agreements.
The engagement underscores growing ties between Greece and Saudi Arabia, built on shared interests in energy transition, infrastructure resilience and regional connectivity, as both countries seek to strengthen their strategic roles in an evolving global energy landscape.
