Holding the office of head of state does not place anyone above the law, regardless of the laws they pass to protect themselves from the very rules they impose on others.
Leadership is not a privilege; it is a responsibility. And responsibility means accountability.
In a globalized world, there are crimes that are universally recognized across all countries and systems of government: terrorism, murder, and rape.
The capture and punishment of those who commit such crimes stands above any claim of immunity rooted in international formalities.
Likewise, crimes committed across borders cannot be insulated by geography.
Borders do not erase victims. Titles do not cancel consequences.
Every suspect deserves full and fair due process. No criminal deserves immunity.
The claim that a head of state is entitled to greater immunity than the citizens he serves, or the victims of his crimes, is, at best, a tragic joke.
“No one is above the law” means exactly that.
