Saudi Arabia Launches Smart Mapping System to Enhance Pilgrim Experience at Holy Sites
New digital platform offers real-time navigation and crowd management tools to support millions of visitors
Saudi Arabia has unveiled a new smart mapping system designed to improve navigation, safety and service delivery for millions of visitors to the holy sites in Makkah and Madinah.
The digital platform integrates real-time geospatial data, crowd flow analytics and multilingual guidance to assist pilgrims during peak seasons such as Hajj and Umrah.
Officials said the system is part of the Kingdom’s broader digital transformation strategy aimed at elevating the quality of services provided to visitors to the Two Holy Mosques.
The smart maps are accessible via mobile devices and interactive kiosks, enabling users to locate prayer areas, medical facilities, transport hubs and essential services.
Authorities have also incorporated live updates on congestion levels and transport schedules to facilitate smoother movement within and around the holy sites.
Saudi officials emphasised that the initiative supports the Kingdom’s commitment to ensuring a safe and seamless pilgrimage experience.
Advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence and data analytics, are being used to anticipate crowd patterns and improve emergency response coordination.
The project aligns with Vision 2030 goals to modernise infrastructure and enhance hospitality services, while preserving the sanctity and heritage of Islam’s holiest locations.
Over recent years, Saudi Arabia has invested heavily in digital systems, transport networks and facility upgrades to accommodate growing numbers of pilgrims from around the world.
Authorities stated that the smart mapping system will continue to evolve, with further enhancements planned to integrate additional public services and improve user accessibility.
The launch marks another step in the Kingdom’s efforts to combine technological innovation with its longstanding role as custodian of the holy places.
