Riyadh, Saudi Arabia - The Foreign Ministry of Saudi Arabia issued a statement on Thursday condemning what it described as 'provocative' actions taken by Israeli officials at the Al-Aqsa Mosque in East Jerusalem.

The statement emphasized the Kingdom's categorical rejection of any actions that might compromise the historical and legal status of Jerusalem and its holy sites, including Al-Aqsa Mosque.

The tensions escalated earlier this week when Itamar Ben-Gvir, Israel's far-right Minister of National Security, and Yitzhak Wasserlauf, the Minister for the Negev, Galilee and National Resilience, both members of the Jewish Power party, engaged in activities at the mosque compound.

These actions came during a large-scale nationalist event that has been used as an opportunity by Jewish nationalists to assert their presence and influence.

The Kingdom's statement called on the international community to intervene and put an end to practices that violate international law and norms, while also holding Israeli authorities accountable for violations against Palestinian civilians and Islamic holy sites.

This condemnation from Saudi Arabia reflects growing concerns over escalating tensions in Jerusalem and the broader region.
