Riyadh University of Arts Opens Admissions for Inaugural Student Intake

Saudi Arabia's Cultural Landscape Expands with New Academic Programs
Riyadh University of Arts (RUA) has commenced the application process for its inaugural student cohort, with academic sessions set to commence in September.

This development marks a significant milestone in Saudi Arabia's ongoing efforts to expand and diversify its cultural and creative sector as part of broader Vision 2030 initiatives.

Applications were opened on May 14 for eight distinct academic programs spread across four colleges within the university: Film, Music, Theatre, and Cultural Management.

The College of Film offers a range of qualifications, including a Bachelor’s degree in Film and Television Production, a Master’s degree in Screenwriting, and an Intermediate Diploma in Film and Television Production.

Similarly, the College of Music will provide educational pathways through its offerings of a Bachelor's degree in Music, Music Industry, and Music Education.

RUA also introduces a novel program: a Bachelor’s degree in Acting for Theatre and Film within the College of Theatre and Performing Arts, alongside a Master’s degree in Arts Management under the College of Cultural Management.

Emphasizing practical experience, students are slated to engage in live projects with partners from the cultural and creative sectors, and various programs require students to undertake cooperative training as part of their graduation requirements.

Mentorship opportunities with industry professionals will also be available, aiming to directly connect students’ learning with contributions to Saudi Arabia’s burgeoning creative landscape.

Abdulmajid Al-Assaf, a spokesperson for RUA, highlighted that the university is committed to fostering not just existing talent but nurturing new creative voices through its admissions process.

The holistic assessment criteria include auditions, portfolio reviews, and interviews, placing significant emphasis on originality, potential, artistic distinction, and the ambition to grow.

RUA’s academic programs are designed in collaboration with international institutions such as the USC School of Cinematic Arts, Guildhall School of Music and Drama, AMDA College of the Performing Arts, Royal College of Art, SOAS University of London, and ESSEC Business School.

This strategic move aims at attracting global talent and ensuring that the university's offerings are both competitive and comprehensive.

The establishment of RUA and its diverse academic programs align with Saudi Arabia’s strategic investments in expanding its cultural industries under Vision 2030.

The Kingdom seeks to bolster local capabilities in film production, music, performance, arts management, and beyond, aiming to cultivate a new generation of creatives and practitioners who can contribute meaningfully to the nation's cultural fabric.

RUA plans for future expansion, with three additional colleges expected to open by 2027: College of Heritage and Civilization Studies, College of Design and Architecture, and College of Visual Arts and Photography.

Prospective students are advised to visit RUA’s official website for detailed information on admission requirements, program specifics including tuition fees and scholarships.
