Saudi Arabia unveils plans for 59 logistics zones and increased port capacity by 2030

Saudi Arabia is taking steps towards establishing a strong logistics infrastructure by 2030.
The country's Transport General Authority has revealed plans to set up 59 logistics zones in the coming years.

This ambitious goal was shared during a reception in London, where the Saudi Ambassador to the UK, Prince Khalid Bn Bandar Bin Sultan, and Deputy Minister of Transport and Logistic Services, Dr. Rumaih Al-Rumaih, highlighted the achievements of the maritime sector.

The event was attended by several ambassadors and delegates, as well as members of the International Maritime Organization (IMO).

In his speech, the Saudi ambassador emphasized the importance of the maritime sector's progress, noting that it demonstrates the country's commitment to achieving its Vision 2030 goals.

Dr. Al-Rumaih further explained that the national transport and logistics strategy has set clear targets for maritime development, with the aim of being among the top ten countries in the Logistics Performance Index (LPI) by 2030.

As part of these efforts, the Kingdom will establish 59 logistics zones and increase the capacity of its ports to handle over 40 million containers.

In addition, the Saudi government is making strides in supporting the marine environment and has announced plans to hold the Maritime Industry Sustainability Conference in September 2023.

The conference will focus on innovation for a greener future and will bring together government and private agencies, including the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture, the Royal Saudi Navy, and the Saudi Ports Authority.

To support the growth of the maritime sector, the Transport General Authority has also established electronic platforms to provide services to the transport sector and is working to establish specialized maritime institutions to train marine professionals to the highest international standards.

Overall, the Saudi government's focus on logistics infrastructure and the maritime sector indicates its commitment to developing a strong and sustainable economy.
