Al Hilal Tops AFC Champions League Elite Group, Set to Face Pakhtakor in Round of 16
Saudi club Al Hilal secures first place in group stage; Round of 16 matchups announced.
Al Hilal has secured the top position in the AFC Champions League Elite group stage, following a decisive victory over Al Wasl.
This achievement highlights the dominance of Saudi clubs in the competition, with three teams finishing as group leaders.
In the upcoming Round of 16, Al Hilal is scheduled to face Pakhtakor from Uzbekistan.
Al Ahli, another Saudi club that finished second in its group, will compete against Qatar's Al Rayyan.
Additionally, Al Nassr is set to play against Iran's Esteghlal FC, while Al Sadd of Qatar will take on Al Wasl.
The Round of 16 will be conducted over two legs, with matchups determined based on the final group stage standings.
The first-placed team will face the eighth-placed team, the second will play the seventh, the third will meet the sixth, and the fourth will compete against the fifth.
These matches are slated to occur from March 3 to March 12, 2025. Subsequently, the quarterfinals, semifinals, and final will be held in Saudi Arabia in a centralized format from April 25 to May 4.
The tournament has seen a significant increase in prize money for this edition.
The champion is set to receive $12 million, a substantial rise from the previous $4 million prize.
The runner-up will earn $6 million, compared to the prior $2 million award.
