Saudi Arabia's Diplomatic Evolution Highlighted at Saudi Media Forum
Experts discuss the Kingdom's expanding role in global diplomacy and commitment to peace.
Saudi Arabia’s emerging role in international diplomacy and its dedication to fostering global peace were central themes at the recent Saudi Media Forum held in Riyadh.
The event featured a panel discussion where experts analyzed the Kingdom’s evolving contributions to international relations through strategic partnerships and mediating conflicts.
Jameel Al-Theyabi, the Editor-in-Chief of Okaz newspaper, discussed the shifting perceptions of Saudi Arabia on the global stage.
He stated that while the Kingdom's role was previously questioned, recent policies demonstrate its proactive approach to tackling global issues.
Al-Theyabi highlighted the Kingdom’s diplomatic engagements with Syria and its efforts to mediate between major powers such as Russia and the United States as indicative of this change.
Political analyst Jasser AlJasser noted that the rise in Saudi Arabia's diplomatic influence can be attributed to Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman’s Vision 2030 initiative.
According to AlJasser, this vision has allowed the Kingdom to evolve from a conservative state to a significant global leader.
He emphasized the role of Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan as instrumental in Saudi Arabia's diplomatic success, particularly regarding stabilization efforts in the region, focusing on Syria and the ongoing situation in Gaza.
Mishary Al-Thaydi, a journalist and writer, provided a broader context, stating that Saudi Arabia is positioning itself as a facilitator of peace and ethical diplomacy amidst a geopolitically tumultuous world.
He noted the absence of interventionist policies that have historically contributed to regional instability, pointing out the Kingdom’s non-violent stance in nations such as Iraq.
The panel also showcased Saudi Arabia's humanitarian efforts, with Al-Theyabi stressing the Kingdom's tradition of aiding those in need.
He mentioned that Saudi Arabia has welcomed refugees by providing both humanitarian aid and educational opportunities, reflecting the nation's commitment to generosity and compassion.
On the topic of the Palestinian situation, AlJasser reiterated Saudi Arabia's steadfast support for a two-state solution.
He mentioned that the Shura Council has clearly stated that there will be no diplomatic relations with Israel until such a resolution is achieved.
“Our position on Palestine is unwavering,” he remarked, emphasizing the Kingdom’s continued advocacy for peace and the reconstruction of Gaza.
Furthermore, he highlighted that Saudi foreign policy prioritizes regional stability and development for the Kingdom and its neighbors.
Al-Thaydi wrapped up the discussion by underscoring that Saudi Arabia’s diplomatic approach is founded on ethics and mutual respect, asserting the absence of any hidden agendas.
“We aim to forge robust and healthy relationships—not just with Arab nations, but globally,” he stated.
The Saudi Media Forum, which took place from February 19 to 21, gathered government officials, industry leaders, and media professionals to delve into the implications of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, the future landscape of media, and the Kingdom’s broadening international influence.
