Saudi Arabia Completes First Phase of Desertification Assessment
Saudi Arabia's National Center for Vegetation Development and Combating Desertification has completed the first phase of its desertification assessment, creating 246 maps. By combining advanced technologies and traditional methods, NCVC gathered valuable data on soil and plant life. The second phase will focus on identifying desertification hotspots in the Riyadh region.
The National Center for Vegetation Development and Combating Desertification (NCVC) in Saudi Arabia has finished the first phase of its desertification assessment project.
This phase resulted in 246 detailed maps that track desertification trends and current land degradation in various regions.
By using Geographic Information Systems (GIS), remote sensing, and field surveys, the NCVC collected data from soil samples, plant studies, and satellite imagery.
The second phase, starting in the Riyadh region, will identify desertification hotspots and further classify land degradation causes.
