Philippines wins prestigious Muslim-friendly destination award
The Philippines has been recognized for its efforts in becoming a Muslim-friendly destination, winning the Emerging Muslim-friendly Destination of the Year award at the Halal in Travel Global Summit.
The Philippine Department of Tourism has been working to attract Muslim travelers, who are one of the fastest-growing tourist groups, to the country.
The award is seen as a key industry event and is considered a significant achievement for the Philippine government, which aims to boost foreign arrivals from the Middle East and Muslim-majority countries.
The Philippines is a predominantly Catholic country, but Muslims make up around 5% of its population and live mainly in Mindanao and the Sulu archipelago.
The Department of Tourism has employed a wide range of services and amenities to cater to Muslim travelers, including halal food options.
Tourism Undersecretary Myra Paz Valderrosa-Abubakar said that the award was a sign of the great stride the country has made in promoting tourism and economic growth for Muslim visitors.
