Danish Embassy Hosts Gastronomic Celebration in Riyadh
The Danish Embassy in Riyadh showcased Denmark’s finest culinary offerings at an event, featuring everything from imported cheeses to luxurious chocolates.
Ambassador Liselotte Plesner emphasized the evening was about sharing Denmark's culinary excellence with Saudi Arabia. She reflected on the transformation of Denmark's food scene, mentioning that Danish cuisine was once rare even within Denmark, overshadowed by international fare.
However, in 2004, key culinary figures including the founders of the acclaimed Noma restaurant, launched the New Nordic Cuisine movement. The initiative propelled Danish cuisine to global recognition, with Noma being named the world's top restaurant multiple times and the country now boasting 32 Michelin-starred establishments.
Ambassador Plesner expressed her hope that the event would inspire and align with Saudi Arabia’s ambitions to elevate its tourism and culinary experiences.
Chef Christian Pedersen engaged guests with authentic Danish dishes, while the Danish Dairy Board contributed by offering a selection of fine cheeses. Gourmet licorice coated in chocolate from Lakrids by Bulow also featured at the event, attended by government officials, ambassadors, chefs, food lovers, and media.
Plesner praised the joint efforts in presenting the quintessence of Danish cuisine and noted the Saudi guests' eagerness to embrace new and sophisticated flavors.
