Manama, Bahrain - The Kingdom of Bahrain is accelerating its efforts to achieve the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) under the leadership of King Hamad and Crown Prince Salman bin Hamad Al-Khalifa.
Noor Al-Khulaif, Bahrain's Minister of Sustainable Development, spoke at the UN's High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development and expressed her country's commitment to fast-tracking the SDGs. Bahrain's success in addressing the
COVID-19 pandemic without compromising its sustainable development agenda is a source of pride for the country.
The launch of Bahrain's Economic Recovery Plan in October 2021, the commitment to reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2060, and the merging of sustainability goals with the government's program for 2023 to 2026 are among the initiatives that have contributed to the country's sustainable development plan for economic recovery.
The Ministry of Sustainable Development was established in 2022, and digital transformation efforts are also underway.
Al-Khulaif emphasized the importance of international cooperation and partnerships in achieving the SDGs and the role of forums such as the High-level Political Forum as platforms for dialogue and consultation to build global partnerships and develop innovative solutions that are accessible to all.
The 2023 High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development, which runs from July 10 to 19, is focusing on "Accelerating Recovery from
COVID-19 and Fully Implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development at All Levels." The forum provides an opportunity for countries to come together and reaffirm their commitment to achieving the SDGs.
