ACWA Power Signs SR3 Billion Deal with Senegal for Largest Desalination Plant in Sub-Saharan Africa
Saudi Arabia's ACWA Power signed a SR3 billion ($800 million) deal with Senegal's Ministry of Water to build a desalination plant in Dakar.
ACWA Power will handle infrastructure, design, financing, construction, operation, and maintenance of the Grande Cote seawater desalination plant.
The plant will produce 400,000 cubic meters of water daily and is expected to start production by Q1 2028, with a 32-year contract duration.
A company has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Senegal to develop a seawater reverse osmosis plant in Grande Cote, Senegal.
This is a continuation of the company's partnership with the country, as it had previously signed MoUs with the National Water Co. and National Electricity Co. in September 2022.
The plant will have a capacity of 300,000 cubic meters per day and will be the first desalination project in Senegal facilitated through a public-private partnership.
It will also be the largest treatment initiative of its kind in Sub-Saharan Africa.
