GCC Secretary-General Holds Talks with EU Ambassador in Riyadh
Meeting focuses on strengthening Gulf–European cooperation in trade, energy and regional security
The Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council received the European Union’s ambassador to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for discussions aimed at advancing cooperation between the GCC and the EU across a range of strategic sectors.
The meeting, held at the GCC General Secretariat headquarters in Riyadh, reviewed the state of Gulf–European relations and explored opportunities to expand collaboration in trade, energy security, climate initiatives and regional stability.
Both sides underscored the importance of sustained dialogue amid evolving geopolitical and economic conditions.
Officials highlighted the long-standing partnership between the GCC bloc and the European Union, noting the EU’s position as one of the Gulf’s largest trading partners.
Discussions addressed prospects for enhancing economic ties, including progress toward a potential free trade agreement and increased investment flows between the two regions.
Energy cooperation featured prominently, with an emphasis on ensuring reliable supply chains and supporting global market stability.
As major hydrocarbon producers and emerging renewable energy investors, GCC states have played a central role in global energy markets, while the EU continues to prioritise diversification and long-term energy security.
The talks also touched on coordination in international forums and joint efforts to promote maritime security, counter-terrorism cooperation and diplomatic solutions to regional conflicts.
Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to constructive engagement and multilateral cooperation.
The meeting reflects ongoing diplomatic outreach between Gulf institutions and European partners, reinforcing a relationship that spans economic, political and security dimensions.
Officials agreed to continue consultations through established channels to further strengthen the GCC–EU strategic partnership.
