African Union Commission Chair Meets Saudi Vice Foreign Minister to Deepen Strategic Cooperation
High-level talks focus on investment, development partnerships and strengthened Africa–Saudi relations
The Chairperson of the African Union Commission has received the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for high-level discussions aimed at expanding strategic cooperation between Africa and the Kingdom.
The meeting, held at the African Union’s headquarters, centred on strengthening political dialogue, enhancing economic partnerships and advancing joint initiatives aligned with Africa’s development priorities.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to deepening ties in areas including infrastructure, energy, food security and investment facilitation.
Saudi Arabia has significantly expanded its engagement with African states in recent years, positioning itself as a long-term development partner through financing, trade and multilateral collaboration.
Officials highlighted the importance of aligning Saudi initiatives with the African Union’s Agenda 2063 framework, which seeks to accelerate industrialisation, regional integration and sustainable growth across the continent.
The Vice Minister underscored Riyadh’s commitment to constructive partnerships based on mutual respect and shared economic opportunity.
Discussions also addressed coordination in international forums and support for stability and development initiatives across Africa.
The Chairperson welcomed the Kingdom’s growing role in supporting continental priorities, particularly in renewable energy development, infrastructure investment and food security programmes.
The two sides explored avenues for enhanced institutional cooperation between Saudi agencies and African Union bodies to ensure efficient implementation of joint projects.
The engagement reflects a broader trend of expanding Africa–Gulf relations, as countries across the Middle East increase investment, trade and diplomatic outreach to the continent.
Both parties expressed confidence that sustained dialogue at senior levels will continue to strengthen cooperation and deliver tangible development outcomes.
The meeting concluded with agreement to maintain regular consultations and explore new frameworks for partnership, reinforcing the strategic importance of Africa–Saudi relations within evolving global economic and diplomatic landscapes.
