Saudi Arabia Tops Middle East Green Building Rankings with Record Growth in 2025
Kingdom posts strongest regional performance in sustainable construction, reflecting Vision 2030 drive toward energy efficiency and net-zero development
Saudi Arabia has emerged as the Middle East’s leading green building market in 2025, posting record growth in sustainable construction and certified projects as the kingdom accelerates its environmental and urban transformation agenda.
New industry data show a sharp rise in the number of buildings certified under internationally recognised sustainability standards, alongside expanded adoption of energy-efficient materials, smart water systems and low-carbon design frameworks.
The surge positions Saudi Arabia at the forefront of the region’s transition toward environmentally responsible construction.
Officials attribute the performance to regulatory reforms, targeted incentives and large-scale national developments aligned with Vision 2030. Mega-projects including NEOM, the Red Sea developments and Diriyah Gate have embedded sustainability requirements at the design stage, integrating renewable energy systems, green mobility solutions and advanced waste-management infrastructure.
The kingdom has also strengthened building codes to improve energy performance, reduce water consumption and encourage environmentally friendly materials.
Public-private partnerships have supported the deployment of solar integration, district cooling technologies and digital monitoring systems aimed at lowering long-term operational emissions.
Analysts note that Saudi Arabia’s rapid expansion of green construction is not only environmental but strategic.
Sustainable urban design is central to attracting foreign investment, tourism and technology partnerships, reinforcing the country’s ambition to diversify its economy beyond hydrocarbons.
Workforce development programmes and local manufacturing of sustainable construction materials have further contributed to the sector’s record performance, creating new employment opportunities and strengthening domestic supply chains.
With additional large-scale projects scheduled for completion over the next several years, Saudi Arabia’s 2025 results are widely seen as a milestone in the region’s sustainability transition and a benchmark for neighbouring markets pursuing similar environmental targets.
