UAE's 6,000 New Midday Rest Stations for Delivery Riders During Summer Heat: An Interactive Map and Regulation Enforcement
In the UAE, 6,000 rest stations will be opened for delivery riders during the hot summer months, in partnership with government entities and private companies.
These stations will help riders take comfortable midday breaks during the nationwide work ban, which runs from June 15 to September 15.
During this period, any work or task under direct sunlight or open-air areas is prohibited from 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. to protect workers from heat-related hazards and injuries.
An interactive map of these rest stations will be available to help riders easily locate and access them.
The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) has announced the continuation of a project providing midday rest areas for delivery workers.
Unique to this sector, delivery workers do not stay in one place during their breaks, and some materials require on-time delivery.
Last year, 365 rest stations were established in partnership with delivery companies like Talabat, Deliveroo, Noon, and Careem.
This year, restaurants, shopping centers, retail stores, and cloud kitchens are also joining the effort to offer rest areas for delivery drivers.
The annual noon break, now in its 20th year, gives outdoor workers a three-hour respite from the extreme summer heat, which can reach up to 50° Celsius.
Companies are mandated to provide shaded areas and cooling equipment during this break.
Failure to comply with this regulation can result in fines of up to Dh5,000 per worker and a maximum of Dh50,000 for multiple violations.
