Saudi Arabia to Receive U.S. Army Helicopter Support and Training Under $1 Billion Plan
Washington approves major package providing Riyadh with helicopter parts, maintenance support and U.S. Army-led training
The United States has authorised a major defence package that will provide Saudi Arabia with helicopter spare parts, maintenance services and U.S. Army-delivered training, in a deal valued at nearly one billion dollars.
The decision, formally notified in early December, confirms Washington’s intention to strengthen long-term military cooperation with the kingdom through sustained rotorcraft support and capability building.
The programme covers a broad range of U.S.-made helicopters used by Saudi forces, including Apache attack aircraft and Black Hawk, Chinook, Lakota and light scout platforms.
Alongside the supply of spares and repair components, the United States will deliver structured training for Saudi pilots and maintenance crews, offering both foundational and advanced instruction designed to enhance operational readiness across the Royal Saudi Land Forces Aviation Corps.
Saudi officials view the package as a critical investment in air mobility and rapid-response capacity at a time when the region faces shifting security pressures.
For Washington, the agreement reinforces its position as Saudi Arabia’s principal defence partner and supports ongoing efforts to maintain stability through strengthened allied capabilities.
The package has been submitted to Congress for review.
If fully approved, it will become one of the most significant recent helicopter support and training arrangements between the United States and a Middle Eastern partner, further embedding cooperation between the two nations.
