Saudi Arabia is exploring the possibility of dividing the Grand Mosque in Makkah into coded zones to enhance access
Saudi Arabia is considering segmenting the Grand Mosque in Makkah into zones with specific codes to streamline entry for devotees and staff. An agreement to study this zoning concept was made between the General Authority for the Grand Mosque and the Saudi Postal and Logistics Services Company. This initiative, announced at the Hajj and Umrah Services Conference, aims to improve navigational precision within the mosque's expansive area, optimize employee distribution, and enhance overall service quality.
Notably, the Grand Mosque experienced a record influx of over 13.5 million international Umrah pilgrims in 2023, reflecting a significant increase from previous years. Dr. Tawfiq Al-Rabiah, Minister of Hajj and Umrah, highlighted this growth as evidence of the successful measures implemented by the Saudi leadership to facilitate pilgrimage activities. The government remains committed to offering comprehensive support for a seamless and comfortable pilgrimage experience.
