Pope Speaks Out After IDF Sniper Kills Two Women Inside Gaza Church
Two women were fatally shot by an Israeli sniper at the Holy Family Parish in Gaza, with Pope Francis condemning the violence against civilians. The Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem reported that the victims, a mother and daughter, were heading to a nearby convent when they were attacked, resulting in one woman dying while trying to protect the other. Seven additional individuals suffered injuries during the incident at the church complex, a sanctuary for Christian families amid the conflict.
The Pope remarked on the tragedy during his Sunday Angelus prayer, expressing distress over the targeting of unarmed civilians in Gaza, and he drew upon biblical teachings to call for an end to violence and terrorism.
The patriarchate also stated that IDF tanks had struck the Convent of the Sisters of Mother Theresa, rendering it uninhabitable and destroying its only power source, as well as fuel, solar panels, and water tanks. On a related note, UK MP Layla Moran relayed the dire situation of her relatives taking refuge at the church, including the death of a family member and the presence of white phosphorous and gunfire.
Independent verification of these events and allegations was not available to CNN.
