U.S. President Donald Trump reveals an unexpected strategy to assert control over Gaza following the resettlement of Palestinians.
In an unexpected announcement on Tuesday, U.S. President
Donald Trump suggested that the United States take control of the Gaza Strip once Palestinians are relocated to neighboring countries.
This represents a significant change in U.S. policy regarding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
During a joint press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Trump proposed that the U.S. would oversee the reconstruction of Gaza, a region severely impacted by ongoing violence, and handle the removal of unexploded ordnance and other dangers.
Trump also mentioned that the U.S. would create job opportunities in the area, aiming to turn Gaza into a hub of economic growth for the Middle East.
Although he highlighted the U.S. role in the rebuilding efforts, Trump did not provide details on how the U.S. would acquire legal authority over Gaza.
Netanyahu commended Trump’s 'innovative ideas' and his readiness to depart from traditional diplomatic strategies.
This plan follows Trump’s previous calls for neighboring Arab countries, such as Jordan and Egypt, to permanently settle Palestinians, implying that Gaza, referred to as a 'demolition site,' should be vacated by its current residents.
The proposal arises during discussions at the White House regarding the tenuous Gaza ceasefire, Iran, and potential normalization between Israel and Saudi Arabia.
However, Trump's resettlement proposals have faced pushback from Arab leaders.
