Saudi Arabia Plants 10,000 Mangroves Across Five Regions to Support Biodiversity
Mangrove cultivation campaigns held in celebration of World Wetlands Day to promote environmental sustainability.
The National Center for Vegetation Development and Combating Desertification organized successful mangrove planting campaigns across Saudi Arabia on February 2-3, marking World Wetlands Day.
The campaigns took place in several regions, including Jazan, the Eastern Province, Madinah, Makkah, and Asir, where more than 10,000 saplings were planted.
In Makkah, 1,000 seedlings were placed along Jeddah’s beaches to support biodiversity and promote sustainable resource management.
The initiative, conducted in partnership with the Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture, also involved strong volunteer participation, as the center launched community engagement opportunities.
The campaign underscored the importance of wetlands in offering natural climate solutions and enhancing environmental sustainability.
The center’s ongoing work includes the restoration of degraded areas, combating illegal logging, and overseeing the management of rangelands, forests, and national parks.
