Makkah Launches Hydrogen-Powered Bus Trial to Promote Clean Energy
Hydrogen fuel cell buses are tested in Makkah as part of Saudi Arabia's push for sustainable transportation and environmental protection.
Makkah has launched its second trial of hydrogen fuel cell-powered buses, aimed at promoting clean energy and sustainability.
The trial, overseen by the Royal Commission for Makkah City and Holy Sites in collaboration with the Ministry of Energy, Transport General Authority, Civil Defense, and Traffic Department, is part of a pilot project to explore hydrogen applications in transportation.
The initiative is designed to raise public awareness, gain commercial and technical expertise, and lay the groundwork for future expansion.
The project aligns with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 goals to reduce emissions and promote eco-friendly transportation solutions.
It also seeks to improve services for pilgrims and Umrah performers.
The buses will operate along designated routes and be fueled by a mobile hydrogen fueling station, with evaluations focusing on efficiency, performance, and passenger comfort.
This trial is part of the Makkah Bus Project and aims to enhance the city’s public transportation system while contributing to a cleaner environment.
