Titanic Submersible Goes Missing During Exploration of Shipwreck
The Titanic submersible used to take tourists to see the shipwreck has gone missing and a search and rescue mission has been launched.
The submersible was used to explore the wreckage of the Titanic, which sank on April 15, 1912, and has been extensively explored since its discovery in 1985.
The wreckage is located at a depth of 3,800 meters at the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean, 600 kilometers off the coast of Newfoundland, Canada.
In February 2022, a video of an earlier visit to the wreckage was released to the public, and in May 2022, the first high-resolution 3D scan of the shipwreck was published.
The submersible was remotely controlled from a specialist ship and spent over 200 hours surveying the wreck, taking over 700,000 images to create the scan.
