Saudi Arabia's Trade Growth: 5% Import-Export Increase in Q1 2024, Boosted by Seaport Expansion and Public-Private Collaboration
In the opening months of 2024, Saudi Arabia experienced a 5 percent surge in both imports and exports, defying the regional tensions, as revealed by Saleh Al-Jasser, the Minister of Transport and Logistic Services, in an interview with Al-Ekhbariya TV channel.
This growth was preceded by a noteworthy increase in container handling at the country's seaports.
In November 2023, the Saudi Ports Authority, or Mawani, reported a 5.31 percent rise in container handling across all its seaports, with a total of 741,905 twenty-foot equivalent units processed, compared to 704,486 units in the same period the previous year.
During the Logistic Integration Forum 2024, held on April 29 in the Eastern Province, Al-Jasser attributed this growth to the successful collaboration between the public and private sectors.
The increase in trade volumes underscores the resilience of the Saudi economy and the effectiveness of the strategic partnerships that have been established to support the country's logistics sector.
