Riyadh Theater Festival Recognizes the Contributions of Saudi Playwright Mohammed Al-Othaim
The Riyadh Theater Festival is paying tribute to the renowned Saudi playwright Mohammed Al-Othaim with a play and an art exhibition celebrating his extensive legacy.
Exhibits showcase Al-Othaim's audios, writings, poems, and the awards he garnered throughout his career. A film further honors his life and creative journey, featuring anecdotes from peers highlighting his dedication to theater and writing.
Al-Othaim's 50-year career was marked by his culturally rich and heritage-inspired theatrical works. He wrote 45 plays, notably the first for the Souk Okaz Festival, and consistently sought excellence in arts.
Artist Najla Al-Saleem emphasized the importance of recognizing creatives during their lifetime, appreciating their cultural contributions and role as positive representatives of their nation. She noted the current Ministry of Culture's efforts in bolstering artists, stating they live in a "golden phase."
The recently inaugurated Riyadh Theater Festival, under the Theater and Performing Arts Commission, hosts performances and aims to energize Saudi theater. Running until December 24 at Princess Nourah University's conference center, the festival features theater companies from eight cities and includes seminars and workshops.
With its focus on nurturing local talent and enriching Saudi theater, the festival will award talents across 11 categories. Participation from Tunisia highlights strong cultural ties with Saudi Arabia. This initiative aligns with the National Strategy for Culture, propelling the vision of the theater sector for Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030.
