Oman's Tourism Sector Experiences Significant Growth in 2025
The Sultanate's tourism sector saw a notable increase in consumption and GDP contributions, reflecting its growing importance in Oman's economic diversification agenda.
JEDDAH: The tourism industry in Oman has demonstrated robust growth, with the country's tourism consumption rising by 11.6 percent to 1.18 billion Omani rials ($3.06 billion) in 2025, up from approximately 1.08 billion rials in the previous year, according to official data.
This increase underscores a strengthening demand within the sector.
The Sultanate's direct tourism gross domestic product (GDP) saw a 3.7 percent growth, reaching 1.14 billion rials in 2025, compared with 1.09 billion rials in 2024.
The National Centre for Statistics and Information, as cited by the Oman News Agency, reported these figures.
Oman's tourism sector is emerging as a key component of its economic diversification strategy, complementing the country's efforts to reduce its dependence on hydrocarbons and align with Oman Vision 2040.
This vision positions tourism as central to the nation's future development plans.
The gross direct value added from tourism increased to 1.11 billion rials in 2025, representing a 4 percent rise over the previous year, indicating sustained growth within the sector.
Total tourism output expanded to 2.28 billion rials by the end of 2025, marking a 7.8 percent increase from 2024's levels.
In the fourth quarter of 2025, direct tourism GDP was recorded at 330 million rials, slightly lower than the same period in 2024 but maintaining a stable contribution to the overall GDP at 3 percent.
The accommodation services segment showed the most significant growth within the sector, increasing by 17 percent to reach 252.1 million rials.
Other tourism services experienced growth as well, with restaurant services rising by 3.5 percent to 198.9 million rials and transport services edging up by 1.1 percent to 196.5 million rials.
Conversely, travel and booking agencies saw a decline of 12.2 percent, dropping to 242.7 million rials.
At constant prices, direct tourism GDP increased by 5.7 percent to 1.15 billion rials in 2025, with the gross value added from tourism growing by 6.5 percent to 1.09 billion rials over the same period.
Total tourism output at constant prices reached 2.17 billion rials, reflecting a 5.5 percent increase compared to the end of 2024.
Overall, Oman's tourism sector is being recognized as a crucial component in the country's economic development strategy, with sustained growth and increasing investor interest signaling its potential for long-term sustainability.
