Saudi Arabia Inks MoUs at Hannover Messe to Foster Industrial Localization

The Kingdom's Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources collaborates with international partners to advance electric manufacturing, smart grid technologies.
RIYADH: Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources announced the signing of three memorandums of understanding (MoUs) during its participation in Hannover Messe 2026 in Germany.

These agreements are designed to bolster electrical manufacturing, enhance smart grid technologies, and promote industrial localization.

The collaborations involve partnerships with Phoenix Contact Saudi Arabia, Alfanar Co., Abunayyan Trading, and the United Technology of Electric Substations & Switchgears.

The MoUs were formalized during the Kingdom’s presence at Hannover Messe, held from April 20 to 24, where officials leveraged the global industrial platform to market Saudi Arabia as a prime destination for manufacturing investments and international partnerships.

This initiative aligns with the nation's strategy to localize high-value manufacturing sectors and facilitate technology transfers.

According to a statement by the Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources, participation in Hannover Messe represents an extension of efforts to establish Saudi Arabia as a key player in industrial investment attraction and international partnership development.

The Saudi pavilion at the event showcased various investment opportunities across industrial and mining sectors, emphasizing the adoption of Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies to enhance productivity and competitiveness.

In addition to showcasing investment prospects, officials engaged in meetings with global industrial and technology firms such as Siemens, Festo, Schneider Electric, and the Fraunhofer Institute.

These discussions aimed at exploring collaboration possibilities, technology transfers, and localization efforts within the Kingdom's industries.

The Ministry also highlighted Saudi Arabia’s competitive advantages for investors, including access to incentives and mineral resources valued at over $2.5 trillion.

This natural resource endowment positions the country as a pivotal player in downstream industries and value chains associated with critical minerals and clean energy technologies.

To mark International Women's Day in Industry on April 21, the Ministry underscored initiatives aimed at increasing female participation within the industrial sector, reflecting broader efforts to diversify the workforce and bolster human capital development under Saudi Arabia’s industrial strategy.

The event was co-hosted by several government entities including the Saudi Industrial Development Fund, the Saudi Authority for Industrial Cities and Technology Zones, and the Saudi Export Development Authority.

With over 10,000 factories currently in operation and investments exceeding $350 billion, Saudi Arabia's industrial sector has witnessed rapid expansion.

Under Vision 2030, the Kingdom seeks to elevate the sector’s contribution to the Gross Domestic Product to 20 percent and further advance manufacturing localization efforts.
