Kurdish Opposition Stalls Iraqi Federal Budget Amid Dispute Over Oil Revenue
The Kurdistan Regional Government in Iraq has opposed changes in the draft Iraqi federal budget that it claims infringe upon the rights of the Kurdish people.
The opposition poses a challenge to the prime minister of Iraq's federal government, who is trying to adopt a three-year budget as a flagship policy.
The KRG has said it will not abide by any other decision outside the agreement it signed with the federal government.
The dispute over the budget has been ongoing since 2014, when the Kurds began selling crude independently from Kurdistan.
The KRG has called the changes in the draft budget introduced by members of the parliament's finance committee unconstitutional.
