German Industry Leaders to Accompany Economy Minister on Strategic Saudi Arabia Visit
CEOs of Siemens Energy and Thyssenkrupp join Berlin delegation to Riyadh as Germany seeks deeper energy ties and economic cooperation
Top executives from two of Germany’s leading industrial groups — Siemens Energy and Thyssenkrupp — are set to travel to Saudi Arabia alongside Germany’s Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, Katrin Reiche, underscoring Berlin’s efforts to strengthen economic and energy ties with Riyadh.
The delegation will visit the Kingdom from February first to third, focusing on cooperation in energy, technology and related sectors, according to officials familiar with the plans.
Christian Bruch, chief executive officer of Siemens Energy, will join Miguel López, chief executive of Thyssenkrupp, in the business delegation accompanying the minister.
Their participation reflects the centrality of energy and industrial collaboration in the agenda, particularly at a time when Germany is seeking to diversify its energy suppliers and build resilient supply chains after losing access to inexpensive Russian gas.
The trip marks a continuation of expanding economic engagement between Europe’s largest economy and Saudi Arabia, which has emerged as one of Germany’s most important partners in the Middle East.
High energy costs and geopolitical uncertainties have driven German policymakers and industry leaders to explore partnerships beyond traditional sources, with Riyadh’s energy sector positioned as a key element in this strategic recalibration.
In addition to Bruch and López, other senior executives expected to attend include heads of major German energy and industrial firms, highlighting the delegation’s broad commercial emphasis.
A series of memorandums of understanding on energy projects, innovation and advanced technologies are anticipated during the visit, signalling tangible outcomes from high-level dialogues.
The Saudi visit comes against the backdrop of ongoing regional diplomacy and efforts by Berlin to secure stable, diversified energy supplies, while also promoting German industrial expertise abroad.
By pairing government leadership with corporate chiefs in the delegation, Germany aims to align strategic economic interests with broader geopolitical goals, reflecting the evolving nature of European–Gulf cooperation in the energy transition and technology sectors.
