Israeli Defense Minister Reveals Significant Shift in Gaza War Strategy
Israel's Defense Minister Yoav Gallant has announced a strategic refinement of military operations in Gaza. The focus will be on precise tactics in the northern areas and ongoing targeting of Hamas leadership in the south.
As international calls for de-escalation mount, Israel scales back troop deployment, enabling reservists to resume civilian work.
Gallant's revised strategy involves surgical strikes through raids, the destruction of tunnels, and combined air and ground operations, leveraging ground victories to date. Special forces will also play a role.
The densely populated southern Gaza will see continued efforts to neutralize Hamas commanders and recover Israeli captives, persisting as necessary.
Post-conflict, Hamas will not govern Gaza, but Israel insists on operational liberty while excluding its own civilians from the region. Local Palestinian authorities will govern, provided they pose no threat to Israel.
This directive follows an extensive Israeli campaign triggered by an Oct. 7 Hamas attack, killing an estimated 1,200 and taking approximately 240 hostages. The conflict has resulted in over 22,000 Palestinian casualties, widespread displacement, and significant destruction.
