Saudi Arabia Raises Film Incentives to Boost Local Production

The Saudi Film Commission increases cash rebate program to 60 percent to stimulate film production in the Kingdom.
Riyadh, Saudi Arabia: The Saudi Film Commission has announced an increase in film incentives, raising them to a maximum of 60 percent to boost local film production within the country.

This update is part of the commission's efforts to support the growth of the sector, attract high-quality projects, and establish Saudi Arabia as a prominent destination for global filmmaking.

According to the Saudi Press Agency, the updated cash-rebate program aims to provide sustainable value for film projects through enhanced mechanisms.

The announcement was made during the ongoing 79th Cannes Film Festival, where industry professionals from around the world are gathered annually.

The new incentives program includes practical measures designed to support every stage of production.

These improvements cover clear processes, streamlined pathways, and competitive financial backing.

Specifically, the update introduces accelerated disbursement processes, aiming to enhance cash flow efficiency for production companies and create a more conducive operating environment for timely project delivery.

This move is part of a broader strategy outlined in Saudi Vision 2030 to develop creative industries and maximize the economic and cultural impact of the film sector.

The Film Commission is collaborating with national entities, including the Cultural Development Fund, to establish an enhanced support ecosystem for film projects.

As part of these efforts, Abdullah Al-Qahtani, CEO of the Film Commission, stated that the updated incentives reflect the Kingdom's commitment to building a sustainable film industry based on empowerment and partnership.

He highlighted the development of regulatory and operational aspects related to the incentives program over recent periods, including the introduction of a financial audit and disbursement procedures guide aimed at improving implementation efficiency.

Majed Al-Hugail, CEO of the Cultural Development Fund, emphasized that the enhanced mechanisms for disbursing incentives are part of a broader strategy to support the sustainability of cultural projects.

He noted that the speed and clarity of procedures have become critical factors in shaping global film industry production and investment decisions.

Through this program, the Kingdom aims to provide an efficient and adaptable experience that caters to the needs of projects at various stages and solidifies its reputation as a reliable partner for international productions.
