New Publication Explores 70 Years of Saudi-Japanese Business Relations

A new book titled 'Descendants of the Samurai' aims to enhance understanding and cooperation between Saudi Arabia and Japan.
As Saudi Arabia marks 70 years of diplomatic relations with Japan, dignitaries from both nations recently convened in Riyadh for the launch of a new book that delves into the complexities of Japanese commerce.

The publication, titled "Descendants of the Samurai," was authored by Dr. Khalid Al-Rashoud, who explained that his work sheds light on the cultural differences, communication methods, and negotiation styles that shape business interactions between Saudi and Japanese counterparts.

Dr. Al-Rashoud, who holds a doctorate in transformation management and development engineering from the Tokyo Institute of Technology and has previously served as an adviser at the Saudi Embassy in Japan, emphasized the importance of understanding Japanese culture.

He stated that the book offers insights into effective strategies for achieving professional success, with a particular focus on navigating business relations and understanding cultural norms.

The author expressed that the book aims to help readers comprehend the rich cultural heritage of Japan, which encompasses a wealth of knowledge, philosophy, and scientific advancements.

He noted that language barriers and geographical distances often impede the exchange of ideas between the two cultures.

Targeted primarily at business professionals, the book is also expected to benefit government officials, non-governmental organizations, researchers, and students interested in Saudi-Japanese relations.

Dr. Al-Rashoud indicated that he hopes the publication will facilitate closer ties between Japan and the Gulf region.

Attendees at the book launch included Yasunari Morino, Japan’s Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, who remarked on the longstanding friendship between the two nations.

He articulated that Japan and Saudi Arabia enjoy deep connections across various sectors, including economic and cultural domains.

Ambassador Morino highlighted the vital role of mutual understanding in strengthening bilateral relations, commending Dr. Al-Rashoud's work as a significant contribution to fostering this understanding and enhancing the friendship between the peoples of both countries.
