Dan Bongino, a right-wing commentator, to serve under newly confirmed FBI Director Kash Patel.
US President
Donald Trump has appointed Dan Bongino, a prominent right-wing commentator, as the new deputy director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
The announcement was made via social media, where Trump described Bongino as "a man of incredible love and passion for our Country," asserting that he would serve under the recently confirmed FBI Director Kash Patel.
Bongino, 50, has a background in law enforcement, having served with the New York Police Department (NYPD) and the United States Secret Service.
He was part of the protection detail for former Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama.
In addition to his law enforcement experience, Bongino hosts a self-titled podcast that has garnered significant attention on social media platforms, consistently attracting higher engagement than traditional news outlets like Fox News and CNN.
Following the announcement of his new role, Bongino expressed gratitude to Trump, Attorney General Pam Bondi, and Director Patel in a post on X.
Trump elaborated on his choice of Bongino, noting that he was "willing and prepared to give up" his podcast to assume his new responsibilities at the FBI.
The president also commented on his expectations for Bongino, stating that "Fairness, Justice, Law and Order will be brought back to America, and quickly."
Bongino has previously run for Congress three times and has been a vocal supporter of Trump.
His podcast episodes often feature provocative titles that echo conservative sentiments.
He has summarized his political commentary style with the statement, "My life is all about owning the libs now."
Known for his combative online presence, Bongino frequently challenges critics of Trump, including a notable and ongoing dispute with author Stephen King.
The appointment comes as Kash Patel, Bongino's new superior, was narrowly confirmed by the Senate.
Patel has faced scrutiny from Democrats who have expressed concerns regarding his potential to retaliate against political adversaries, although Patel has committed to "rebuilding" the FBI following a tumultuous period.
Bongino's appointment signifies a shift in leadership at the FBI, which has been a focal point of political discourse in recent years amid various investigations and controversies.
