Pilgrims advised to receive the vaccine at least ten days before travel to ensure immunity during Ramadan.
The Saudi Ministry of Health (MoH) has issued a strong recommendation for individuals planning to perform Umrah during the holy month of Ramadan to obtain the meningitis
vaccine.
This initiative is part of a broader public health strategy aimed at enhancing preventive health measures and mitigating the spread of infectious diseases among pilgrims.
The ministry emphasized that vaccinations should be administered at least ten days prior to travel in order to provide adequate time for the development of immunity.
Individuals who have received the meningitis
vaccine within the last five years are not required to undergo revaccination, as research indicates the
vaccine remains effective for that duration.
Meningitis is primarily spread through respiratory droplets generated by activities such as coughing and sneezing.
In light of this transmission method, the MoH is advocating for heightened awareness and adherence to preventive health measures.
Appointments for vaccinations can be arranged through the Sehhaty application, which facilitates access to adult vaccination clinics across the country.
The MoH's guidelines underscore the necessity of following recommended health protocols to ensure the safety and well-being of all pilgrims during their spiritual journey.
This directive is aligned with the ministry's ongoing commitment to safeguarding public health and improving overall health services in Saudi Arabia.
