Myanmar Military Claims Recapture of Key Trade Route toward China
Myanmar's military asserted the recapture of a crucial northern transport corridor linking to China after a prolonged battle.
YANGON: Myanmar’s military has reportedly claimed the recapture of a significant northern transport route toward China following a 15-month confrontation, describing it as a countermeasure against rebel groups engaged in the ongoing civil conflict.
The military stated that they have successfully suppressed ‘terrorist insurgent groups’ along the corridor connecting Mandalay, the country's second-largest city, to Myitkyina, a strategic northern hub situated approximately 50 kilometers from China’s border.
It is essential to note that these assertions by the Myanmar military could not be independently verified by AFP or other independent sources.
The ongoing civil war and disputes over territorial control have further complicated efforts to ascertain accurate information regarding troop movements and battlefield outcomes.
Furthermore, this development underlines the complex geopolitical dynamics at play in Myanmar, where China’s influence is increasingly significant due to its strategic location and economic ties with Myanmar.
