The European Union announced an additional €68 million ($73 million) in humanitarian aid for Palestinians in Gaza.
The territory, which has a population of two million, has been severely affected by six months of Israeli bombardment and ground operations following Hamas's October 2021 attack.
The EU stated that the ongoing crisis has led to a significant increase in humanitarian needs, and this funding brings the EU's total humanitarian assistance for Palestinians in Gaza and the region to €193 million in 2022.
The new aid will be used for food deliveries, clean water, sanitation, and shelters, and will be provided through local partners on the ground.
The UN has described the situation in Gaza as a "humanitarian hellscape," with fears of impending famine.
The EU and US have called on Israel to allow more aid into the territory.
The US military has started building a pier to increase deliveries.
The conflict in Gaza began with an unprecedented Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, resulting in approximately 1,170 deaths in Israel, according to Israeli officials.
Israel responded with a retaliatory offensive, killing over 34,000 people in Gaza, mostly women and children, according to the Hamas-run health ministry.
