The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah in Saudi Arabia has introduced a new initiative designed to streamline the travel experience for pilgrims attending the Hajj.

Dubbed 'Hajj Without Luggage,' this service allows pilgrims to send their luggage directly from their home countries to their accommodations in the Kingdom, thereby eliminating the need to carry suitcases during the journey and reducing airport congestion.

The 2026 initiative is implemented in collaboration with the General Authority of Civil Aviation and other organizations within a broader effort to enhance services provided to Hajj attendees.

Under this system, luggage is collected at departure airports through specialized companies before being shipped to Saudi Arabia.

Upon arrival at Jeddah or Madinah airports, the bags are delivered directly to hotels.

The ministry asserts that by utilizing this service, pilgrims can proceed immediately to transportation buses upon arrival without waiting for their baggage.

This helps to alleviate congestion and speeds up the process during peak times of the Hajj season.

Bader Al-Juaid from King Abdulaziz University's College of Tourism notes that the initiative marks a shift in service focus towards not only facilitating travel but also easing operational burdens.

This comprehensive luggage service is expected to handle 1.1 million bags from participating countries through the Makkah Route Initiative, ensuring delivery to Makkah hotels within 24 hours.

Saudia Airlines has confirmed its involvement with digital integration measures aimed at reducing airport congestion during peak periods.

The initiative reflects a modern approach to making Hajj more comfortable and organized for pilgrims of all ages.
