Anti-Islamic Writings Found in Car of California Mosque Shooters

Teenage suspects identified, wrote anti-Islamic content before fatal attack on San Diego mosque.
The Department of Justice (DOJ) has revealed that 'anti-Islamic writings' were discovered within the vehicle belonging to two teenage suspects behind Monday's shooting at the Islamic Center of San Diego, which resulted in three fatalities.

The gunmen, identified as Caleb Vasquez, 18, and Cain Clark, 17, both died from self-inflicted gunshot wounds inside their car following the incident, according to police reports.

The names of the shooters and the details regarding the writings were initially reported by local media outlets.

Police have confirmed that the attack is being treated as a potential hate crime; however, they have not disclosed any additional information on possible motives at this time.

The mother of one of the suspects, Clark, has been cooperating with authorities after her son was described to police as suicidal and having taken three of her guns and their family vehicle.

Following an urgent call from the boy's mother regarding his behavior and the subsequent reports of the shooting at the mosque, police initially responded to both a local shopping mall and the suspect's school before arriving at the scene.

The Islamic Center, which serves as San Diego County's largest mosque and houses Bright Horizon Academy, confirmed that all students were safely accounted for after the attack.

A fundraising campaign spearheaded by CAIR (Council on American-Islamic Relations) San Diego in collaboration with the Islamic Center of San Diego has raised over $1.7 million to support the families affected by the shooting, particularly honoring Amin Abdullah, a security guard recognized for his actions that prevented further casualties.

Mayor Todd Gloria of San Diego has emphasized the city's commitment to enhancing security measures in response to this incident.

He highlighted the need to protect against potential copycat attacks from 'sick and twisted individuals.'

No further personal or interpretative opinions have been expressed.
