Saudi Arabia Transfers 90 Million Dollars to Palestinian Authority as Israel Withholds Clearance Revenues
Riyadh’s grant aims to shore up PA finances while public-sector salaries and services remain suspended amid withheld Israeli transfers
Saudi Arabia has delivered a 90 million-dollar grant to the (PA), a senior PA finance official confirmed after a hand-over ceremony at the Saudi embassy in Amman.
The funds were received by acting PA finance minister from Saudi envoy , and form part of a broader international coalition launched by Riyadh this autumn to stabilise PA finances.
The grant follows months of fiscal squeeze faced by the PA after the Israeli government halted its monthly clearing-revenue transfers — the bulk of Ramallah’s budget — under orders from finance minister .
The suspension, reportedly intended as leverage over recent statehood recognitions by Western countries, has left PA employees unpaid for months and threatened basic services in health, education and public administration.
Saudi officials say the contribution reflects a long-standing commitment to Palestinian rights and the establishment of a sovereign Palestinian state.
At a summit during the United Nations General Assembly, Riyadh announced the formation of an emergency fund alongside France, Norway, Spain and other international partners — with the aim of providing direct support to the PA and preserving institutional viability.
The infusion of cash was welcomed by PA leadership, who affirmed the funding will help meet immediate obligations: paying salaries, restoring operations and preventing institutional collapse.
They described the grant as a demonstration of solidarity and a critical lifeline amid deepening economic and fiscal pressure.
Observers note the Saudi-led aid effort could bolster the PA’s ability to remain functional and maintain governance over parts of the West Bank, while the international coalition seeks to expand support from other states and organisations.
However, long-term stability will depend on whether additional pledges materialise and whether Israeli clearance transfers resume.
With this tranche delivered, attention now turns to how effectively the PA will deploy the funds to sustain public services and support vulnerable communities under ongoing regional uncertainty.
