Riyadh Metro's Western Station Now Fully Operational

The largest of the Riyadh Metro’s four main stations opens, adding a major landmark to the city’s public transport network.
RIYADH: The Royal Commission for Riyadh City (RCRC) has announced that full operations have commenced at the Western Station on the Riyadh Metro, marking the completion of its four principal stations.

This move represents a significant milestone in expanding Riyadh's public transportation infrastructure and adding another key landmark to the city's rapidly developing urban landscape. The Western Station, which opened on Friday, is the largest among the metro's four iconic stations, including the King Abdullah Financial District (KAFD) Station, STC Al-Olaya Station, and Qasr Al-Hokm Station.

Covering an extensive area of 112,000 square meters, it is designed to accommodate up to 60,000 rail passengers per hour and 1,300 bus passengers, firmly establishing its role as a crucial interchange hub connecting various routes and destinations across Riyadh.Boasting Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold certification for both efficiency and environmental performance, the Western Station includes several notable features.

These comprise commercial spaces, a mosque capable of accommodating 550 worshippers, public amenities, and a transport parking area with capacity for over 600 vehicles.

Such design elements reflect a commitment to sustainability alongside the station's operational demands.Situated in the Dhahrat Al-Badiah quarter, southwest of downtown Riyadh, the Western Station lies along the orange line of the Riyadh Metro.

This line spans from Jeddah Station and Tuwaiq on the western end to Khashm Al-An on the eastern end, further connecting Riyadh's urban fabric. The launch of the Western Station highlights the ongoing progress in developing Riyadh’s integrated urban infrastructure, particularly in enhancing mobility and quality of life.

These developments are integral to achieving the goals outlined in Saudi Vision 2030, focusing on reducing reliance on private vehicles and promoting sustainable urban living.
