Jordan Strengthens Tech Ties with U.S. through TEDCO Partnership
The agreement aims to boost cross-border collaboration between startups, support investment flows, and deepen links between Jordanian tech companies and US innovation networks.
Jordan has signed an agreement with Maryland Technology Development Corp., or TEDCO, to enhance cooperation in technology investment and startup development.
This move is part of the country's efforts to bolster its digital economy.
The memorandum of understanding was signed by Jordan’s Minister of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship Sami Smeirat during his visit to the U.S. for the SelectUSA Investment Summit.
According to Petra, Jordan News Agency, this agreement seeks to accelerate collaboration between startups, facilitate investment flows, and strengthen ties between Jordanian technology companies and U.S. innovation networks.
The Jordanian ICT sector generates over $3.3 billion in annual revenue, as reported by the U.S. Department of Commerce’s International Trade Administration.
Smeirat stated that this memorandum represents a practical step towards translating mutual interests into tangible programs, which will benefit both investors and companies, solidifying Jordan's position as a regional technology leader.
The agreement also aims to enable Jordanian companies to access U.S. markets more easily and position Jordan as an attractive destination for international firms looking to expand into the Middle East and North Africa.
TEDCO CEO Troy LeMaile-Stovall expressed excitement about formalizing this collaboration with Jordan, emphasizing support for the advancement of its digital and entrepreneurial ecosystems, which will create connections and opportunities in Maryland.
Both parties plan to organize investment-focused trade missions to Jordan, host joint innovation events, and facilitate Jordan Source’s participation in the TEDCO Expo.
This program leverages Jordan's skilled talent pool, advanced digital infrastructure, and strategic geographic location.
The signing builds on a joint seminar held earlier this year in collaboration with the World Trade Institute and the University System of Maryland, which established initial connections between Jordanian and U.S. companies.
The partnership reflects Jordan’s commitment to expanding global technology linkages, strengthening its domestic innovation landscape, and reinforcing its role as a regional center for information technology services.
