Jazan Region Bolsters Saudi Arabia's Tropical Fruit Output with Thriving Mango Industry

The region accounts for approximately 60 percent of the Kingdom’s total mango output and produces over 65,000 tonnes annually.
Riyadh, Saudi Arabia - The Jazan region is strengthening its position as a leading center for tropical fruit production within Saudi Arabia, with mangoes taking the forefront.

According to recent reports from the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), Jazan contributes roughly 60 percent of the national mango output, surpassing 65,000 tonnes annually. The thriving success of Jazan's mango industry is attributed to its fertile soil and temperate climate, which supports over one million trees spread across governorates like Sabya and Abu Arish.

This expansive orchard produces in excess of sixty distinct varieties of mangoes.

Recent advancements in irrigation techniques, fertilizer use, and pest management have significantly improved the quality of produce and bolstered market competitiveness. The Saudi government's agricultural development programs under Vision 2030 are backing these efforts to enhance sustainability in agriculture and expand processing industries.

The reputation of Jazan mangoes has already secured a strong foothold within GCC markets and Jordan by adhering to stringent health and packaging standards.

Efforts are underway for the region to host an international tropical fruit exhibition during its peak harvest season, aiming to boost agricultural tourism and investment. This growth aligns with Saudi Arabia's broader strategic goals of achieving food security and economic diversification, capitalizing on the unique advantages of its diverse regions.

The annual mango harvest event in Sabya has transformed into a pivotal economic platform that goes beyond showcasing fruits.

It now highlights an integrated system of marketing, manufacturing, and logistics designed to streamline Jazan's agricultural products from farm to consumer.Marketing strategies have included custom packaging featuring local farm identities, which not only distinguishes the origin and quality of produce but also increases its retail appeal, fostering stronger trust in local brands.

The event further emphasizes food processing and logistical improvements.

Innovations such as transforming mangoes into value-added products like juices, jams, and dried fruits aim to reduce waste and create new economic opportunities. To facilitate market access, specialized transport services have been established, ensuring rapid delivery of fresh produce across regions.

This development allows farmers to expand their reach effectively.

These efforts reflect the Saudi government's commitment to boosting agricultural productivity while supporting local industries and improving consumer accessibility to high-quality products.
